Expert Bearded Dragon Tank Setup Guide

I have spent years keeping exotic pets. Here is what actually works.

Setting up a proper habitat is critical for the health and longevity of your bearded dragon. Unlike wild environments, a captive enclosure requires specific temperature gradients and secure substrates to prevent injury. Follow this guide to build a thriving home for your reptile.

First, select an appropriate Exo Terra Glass Terrarium. These enclosures provide necessary ventilation and durability while allowing you to install the required lighting equipment securely on top. Ensure the dimensions allow for climbing space as bearded dragons are arboreal but also terrestrial.

Next, installation of lighting is mandatory. You should use a Zilla ProHeat Reptile Heat Lamp positioned over one side of the tank to create a basking zone reaching approximately 100-110°F (38-43°C). Complement this with UVB lighting for calcium absorption. Always use a thermostat to regulate the bulb.

Finally, avoid loose gravel or sand which can cause impaction. Instead, line the bottom of your enclosure with Reptile Safe Ceramic Substrate Tile. This provides an easy-to-clean surface that mimics natural stone while ensuring your dragon’s safety. Remember to spot clean daily and perform full sanitization weekly.
